No one wants to hear the words, \\\\"You have cancer.\\\\" Family and friends can feel helpless when a loved one is battling a serious illness. Rather than feeling helpless, I wanted to influence fate. I started by taking steps--LITERALLY--to end breast cancer by participating in a Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk. I participated in many Walks, 3 Day and others, but the number of women I walked for grew. Early detection is vital and I pray there\\\\'ll be a cure for cancer soon, but I wanted to do something that could help prevent cancer from starting in the first place.
It was while training for the 2009 Seattle 3 Day Walk that I developed the idea for Embrace Activism. Studies have shown the risk of developing certain diseases can be reduced with regular exercise. YOGA is an ideal form of exercise available to everyone and every body. Yoga students are typically health-conscious and compassionate. And I had my \\\\"ah-ha\\\\" moment: Yoga products that make a difference!
The better part of my adult life has revolved around giving children the best start possible. Whether it was in my role as preschool teacher or parent, I believe a child does best and is given the best chance for future success in a loving home with involved and interested parents. And if it truly takes a village to raise a child, it\\\\'s the females in families--the mothers, daughters, and sisters--that keep extended family members connected. As far as I see it, the health of women directly impacts the health and wellness of children. This journey began as a way to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer so naturally, pink was chosen as the first awareness color line.
Embrace Activism donates 10% of all product prices to non-profit organizations dedicated to research, treatments and CURES. Rolling out an Embrace Activism mat shows a commitment to making a difference, creating purpose-driven yoga.
